Description
Insurance & Excess Explanation – eBikes Vanuatu
At eBikes Vanuatu we deliberately maintain some of the lowest daily rental rates in Port Vila for brand-new 2025-spec eBikes, eScooters and petrol mopeds. In order to keep pricing highly competitive while still protecting our fleet, we operate a limited-scope, vehicle-only damage policy combined with a compulsory daily insurance contribution and a clearly defined excess structure. This approach allows us to avoid the rental fee significantly below that of operators who bundle full third-party, public liability and personal accident cover into the daily rate.
1. Scope of the Mandatory Daily Insurance (1,500 VUV / ~AUD 20 per day) The compulsory daily insurance premium paid by the Hirer provides cover exclusively for physical loss of or damage to the rented vehicle (eBike, eScooter or moped) and its supplied accessories (helmet, lock, keys/NFC tag, charger, basket, etc.) that belongs to eBikes Vanuatu Pty Ltd. This policy does NOT extend to:
Third-party property damage (other vehicles, buildings, livestock, roadside furniture, etc.
Third-party bodily injury or death
Personal injury or death of the Hirer or any passenger
Medical expenses, ambulance, hospitalisation or medical evacuation (medivac) costs
Theft or damage caused by intentional misuse, riding in saltwater, submersion beyond 100 mm, beach riding, or attempting prohibited routes such as Klems Hill
Consequential loss, loss of enjoyment, or any other indirect loss
2. Excess Structure (Deductible payable by the Hirer) In the event of a valid claim for damage to our vehicle, the Hirer remains liable for the following non-waivable excess amounts:
Damage valued at up to 50,000 VUV → Hirer pays excess of 20,000 VUV
Damage valued at over 50,000 VUV → Hirer pays excess of 30,000 VUV
The excess is payable immediately upon return of the vehicle or upon assessment of the damage, irrespective of fault.
3. Hirer’s Own Insurance Obligations By executing the Rental Agreement & Liability Waiver, the Hirer expressly warrants and represents that they hold, for the entire duration of the rental period, a current and comprehensive travel and activities insurance policy issued by a reputable insurer that: (a) expressly includes coverage for the operation of two-wheeled motorised vehicles (including mopeds, motor scooters and electrically-assisted bicycles) in Vanuatu; (b) provides unlimited or high-limit third-party liability cover; (c) includes full medical expense, hospitalisation, repatriation and medical evacuation (medivac) benefits with
no territorial or activity exclusions applicable to Vanuatu; and (d) contains no clause voiding cover in the event of non-wearing of a helmet or minor breach of local road rules.
The Hirer acknowledges that eBikes Vanuatu carries no insurance whatsoever for the Hirer’s personal welfare or for third-party claims and that the Hirer voluntarily assumes all such risks and indemnifies eBikes Vanuatu against any claim arising therefrom.
4. Legal Effect The limitation of coverage described herein forms an essential part of the consideration for the reduced daily rental rate. The Hirer, by accepting the vehicle, irrevocably waives any right to claim against eBikes Vanuatu for any loss, damage, cost, expense, injury or death that falls outside the narrow vehicle-only damage policy described above.
We simply place the responsibility for comprehensive personal and third-party insurance where it belongs: with the traveller’s own policy.
